Colin Fisher - trumpet

Originally from Redmond, Washington, trumpeter Colin has been on the East Coast since 1996, when he began his studies at New England Conservatory of Music. Since that time, he has studied improvisation in the arts at New York University (M.A. '02) and is currently pursuing a PhD at Harvard University in Organizational Behavior. Colin's research interests include improvisation, teams, leadership, and negotiations. In his years on the Boston jazz scene, Colin has performed with the Either/Orchestra, touring the U.S., Europe, and Africa, playing with such guests as John Medeski (Medeski, Martin, and Wood), Dickie Barrett (Mighty Mighty Bosstones), Don Byron, and Matt Wilson. Awards and honors with the Either/Orchestra include The Boston Phoenix's "Best Jazz Band in Boston 1997" and Down Beat International Critics' Poll "Big Band Talent Deserving Wider Recognition/Rising Star" (1997-2005). Colin also performed with Miracle Orchestra, named "Best New Jazz Band 1998" by Boston Magazine and was invited to perform at Phish's Lemonwheel, the highest grossing concert of 1998. At New England Conservatory, Colin performed under the direction of Gunther Schuller, Sam Rivers, George Russell, and Benny Golson. In 1999, he was selected to represent the school in its Honors Ensemble Program. Colin has studied with Fred Hersch, John McNeil, Charlie Schlueter, Charlie Banacos, Paul Bley, and Cecil McBee. He currently lives in Boston with his wife Carola and daughter Kaya.
