Russ Gershon, Tenor Saxophone

Russ Gershon founded the Either/Orchestra in 1985 and has served as artistic director and principal writer for the band. He is also the founder and president of Accurate Records, an independent label which has issued almost 100 titles over the last 12 years. As a leader, sideman and session musician, he has played with Cab Calloway, the Four Tops, Morphine, Throwing Muses, Alan Dawson, John Lockwood, Garrison Fewell, John Medeski, Matt Wilson, Rich Gilbert, Roger Miller and Willie "Loco" Alexander, Bob Moses and Bobby Ward. He holds an AB with Honors in Philosophy from Harvard College, as well as studying at Berklee College of Music, and has taught jazz history at Harvard and served as a visiting clinician alone and with the Either/Orchestra at numerous colleges and high schools. Russ was nominated for a Grammy in 1993 for his composition "Bennie Moten's Weird Nightmare
